So far have only spoke about selling pictures what sells and what doesn’t, well what about the agencies that sell them. There are literally hundreds of sites out there and they all want to sell your work (providing its any good), as they make money if you make money. The problem is choosing which one. Do submit to every site, well that would take for ever and you don’t know what sort of return you would get. My opinion would be to select 4 or 5 of the big names and then maybe a couple of niche sites (ie local to you or focuses on your favourite subject. This page gives a quick overview of my favourite stock sites, and the links to right will give you a much more in-depth look at each site and will also let you know what success I have been having with each site.
Many sites also run a referral program, that is for every photographer or buyer that you refer to their site, you will make a small amount for each purchase they make or receive, this costs the photographer or buyer nothing and is merely an incentive to send traffic their way. The links on the left side are referral links, all I ask if you do decide to join these sites that you use these links, it is the exact same as joining direct, only I will be rewarded for my efforts on this site, which by the way I make nothing from.

Selling your photos
Take me too.....

Environmental pictures seem to do well for me, smoking chimneys, pollution, waste have been good sellers for me, experiment and see what sells best for you.

Clipping Paths.......

As above certain pictures sell better than others. Clippings paths take longer to create, and requires a bit of extra work on the part of the photographer. Basically it involves using software to create a path around the main item of your picture. This is best done in a studio or with a very plain background. The idea is that the person

buying your work of art can lift the item out of the picture and paste it directly onto their own masterpiece. Take this Garlic for example, the path follows the outline of the object, so it can be taken from the black background and put against another colour or even photographic background, these are very popular and increase the selling potential of a basic picture.
